CHEFORNAK -- Alaska State Troopers say an armed confrontation with a Chefornak man ended peacefully with his arrest.
Troopers from Bethel responded Wednesday afternoon to a report that a drunken man was threatening people with a rifle.
Trooper investigators say 30-year-old Simeon Wasili entered the village store, stole a box of ammunition, fired rounds from his rifle and pointed it at several people. Troopers say he then barricaded himself inside his home.
Wasili surrendered just after 11 p.m. He was charged with weapons misconduct, assault and theft and jailed at Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center.
Chefornak is 98 miles southwest of Bethel and has a population of 437.
