Man gets 4 years for container theft

Published: July 25, 2012

FAIRBANKS -- A Fairbanks man has been sentenced to four years in prison for selling a shipping container full of another man's property.

Troy Dewayne Baker, 54, was found guilty in February of selling the container to a stranger for $200 last September. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says he was sentenced Tuesday.

The container had been stored on a lot belonging to another man who reported the theft. The man said the container belonged to his brother-in-law and held all of his belongings. Surveillance camera footage showed a tractor-trailer rig driving off with the container.

Police tracked down the driver of the truck, who said a man who claimed to be the new owner of the container hired him to move it to his property.

The trailer was returned to its owner with all items intact.
