Police on Wednesday revealed the identity of a dead man found floating in Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage on Tuesday.
Jack A. Harshfield, 35, was face down in the water when someone saw him early Tuesday near a dam in the creek, police said. The body was caught in a gate on the dam for a short time, and when the gate was opened firefighters retrieved it, said police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker.
While police say they are waiting for a medical examiner to determine what caused Harshfield's death, the investigators say there were no immediate signs of foul play. Police said it was unclear why Harshfield was at Ship Creek and that he didn't appear to have been fishing or homeless.
