KETCHIKAN -- A grand opening has been held in Ketchikan for the new Gateway Aquatic Center.
The Ketchikan Daily News says the center and its $25 million pool were officially unveiled Saturday. The aquatic center sports an eight-lane competition pool. There also is a twisty slide called the Tongass Tornado.
Wendy Miller, head of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Parks and Recreation Department, says the 35,000-foot aquatic center will do wonders for Ketchikan and people in the surrounding area.
The city's old community pool closed two weeks ago after 40 years of service.
