Pacific Air Forces to get new commander this week

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- The Air Force is getting a new commander for the Asia-Pacific region this week.

Gen. Herbert Carlisle will assume command of Pacific Air Forces in a ceremony at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Friday. Carlisle was most recently Air Force deputy chief of staff in Washington. Before that, he commanded the 13th Air Force from Hawaii.

Carlisle succeeds Gen. Gary North, who is retiring. North has served as Pacific Air Forces commander for three years.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz will preside over the change of command ceremony. The command includes units in Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, Japan and South Korea.
