Menard holds cash edge at end of reporting period

Published: July 31, 2012

JUNEAU -- Sen. Linda Menard's Republican primary challenger raised more money than she did during the latest reporting period. But Menard has more money on hand heading into the Aug. 28 primary, thanks to cash she'd previously raised.

Menard, of Wasilla, will face Michael Dunleavy, who reported raising nearly $37,600 between Feb. 2 and July 27. Dunleavy had entered the fundraising period with about $14,100 on hand but also has spent heavily, on advertising and other costs. He reported having $7,340 on hand.

Menard, who entered the fundraising period with $22,800, had more than $26,200 on hand heading into the primary.

Because of a prohibition on lawmakers raising money while the Legislature is in session, Menard's fundraising for this latest period occurred between May and July.
