Police say fire at Kodiak ice rink was arson

Published: August 1, 2012

KODIAK -- Kodiak police say a fire at a Baranof Park building that houses an ice rink was intentionally set.

KMXT reports the early Wednesday morning fire damaged a large portion of the building's south wall, along with dasher boards, a penalty box and the corrugated plastic facade.

Police Chief T.C. Kamai says it appears an accelerant was used, but the fire department will make the final determination.

Kamai said police received a 911 call just before 4 a.m. about the fire. He says had that call not come in, the entire building could have been lost.
