Pogo Mine pours 2 millionth ounce of gold

Published: August 3, 2012

FAIRBANKS -- Pogo Mine this week poured its 2 millionth ounce of gold.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the mine near Delta Junction passed that milestone on Tuesday.

Pogo was completed in 2006 and started commercial production the following April. It feeds approximately 2,500 tons of gold ore per day to the mill and produces between 350,000 and 380,000 ounces of gold per year.

The mine is expected to continue production until 2019, but plans are being made to try to extend its life.

Current reserves exceed 2.7 million ounces of gold.
