Kenai eliminates South from legion baseball tourny

August 3, 2012

Josiah Covey's sacrifice fly plated A.J. Hull with no outs in the bottom of the 11th inning Friday night, which allowed Kenai Post 20 to eliminate South, 10-9, in the American Legion Alaska state baseball tournament.

Kenai advanced to a late elimination game against Eagle River at Mulcahy Stadium, with the winner earning a spot in Saturday's championship game against Chugiak, the lone unbeaten team in the double-elimination tournament.

Hull tripled to lead off the 11th. He went 4 for 3, drove in three runs and scored two, plus pitched the last five innings for the win.

Kenai's four pitchers issued 17 walks and hit four batters.

Brad Butcher went 2 for 4 for South, with two runs and three RBIs.
