Trial in cold-case Yakutat murder to begin in March

Published: August 6, 2012

The trial for a man accused of killing his girlfriend at a Yakutat lodge is set for next March.

The Juneau Empire says 51-year-old Robert Kowalski is charged with killing his then-girlfriend Sandra Perry at Glacier Bay Lodge in 1996.

The trial was to begin in November, but Juneau Superior Court Judge Louis Menendez granted an unopposed request from Kowalski's lawyer to go ahead with the trial on March 11. The trial was slated to begin in November.

Investigators at the time had ruled the death accidental. The case was reopened in January 2009 after Kowalski was charged and convicted in the 2008 murder of his girlfriend in Montana.
