Federal agriculture officials say grants totaling more than $410,000 have been awarded to four Alaska Native villages and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp.

The rural development grants announced Tuesday are from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The village recipients are Selawik, Scammon Bay, Kipnuk and Tanacross.

According to the USDA, the funds will be used for a variety of projects. Efforts include improvements to Kipnuk's honey bucket hauling system and the purchase of equipment for construction of a new landfill in Selawik.

Altogether, the grants total $410,850.
