A Wasilla motorcyclist died Tuesday after slamming into a moose, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Michael Carlyle was headed north on Fairview Loop, near Knik Goose Bay Road, when his motorcycle hit the moose about 1 p.m. Tuesday, troopers said.

The collision threw Carlyle, 36, several hundred feet, and he died a short time later at the scene, troopers said. Carlyle was wearing a helmet, they said.

Troopers closed the road for a time to investigate.
