Man accused of wounding his mother has bail set at $10,000.

Anchorage police have arrested a man for shooting his mother shortly after 2 p.m. in Midtown Anchorage.

The man, identified as Anchorage resident Paino Alvarez-Perdomo, 29, was taken into custody after about an hour of negotiations at an apartment building at Bering Street and Tudor Road.

He was charged with assault and misconduct involving a weapon.

Police say they believe the man shot his mother at the apartment. She made her way from the apartment to the Golden Corral restaurant, about a block east on Tudor Road, on foot, said police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker.

Someone called 911 from the restaurant parking lot and told dispatchers the woman had been shot in the abdomen, Parker said.

A language barrier complicated communication between police and the victim. She spoke Spanish.

The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for what police described as a "single, non-critical bullet wound" to her torso.

She is expected to be released Wednesday night, Parker said.

Alvarez-Perdomo's bail has been set at $10,000 cash with a court approved custodian . He will be arraigned Thursday.
