Anchorage woman dies when boat sinks in Sound

Published: August 14, 2012

The Coast Guard says it has recovered an Anchorage woman's body from Prince William Sound after a 32-foot boat carrying five people hit a rock and sank.

Petty Officer Jonathan Klingenberg tells KTUU-TV that the agency learned Monday afternoon that five people were in the water off Crafton Island.

A private vessel recovered a man and three children from the water. Civilian divers in the area located Cathaleen M. Powell, brought her to the surface and performed CPR until she was pronounced dead.

Alaska State Troopers say her body is being sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
