KODIAK -- An Anchorage man has been convicted in Kodiak of possessing crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror reports 37-year-old Keith Omar Matthews was arrested Sept. 22 and convicted in a jury trial last week.

The Kodiak Police Department's drug enforcement unit detained Matthews on a traffic stop, obtained a search warrant and seized 5 ounces of crack cocaine and an ounce of marijuana. Investigators also found packaging material and a digital scale.

The crack cocaine was estimated to be worth about $14,000.

Prosecutors say Matthews had been suspected of drug involvement for several years. Investigators say he would live at various locations, rent vehicles, stay on the island for short periods and return to Anchorage.
