School support employees' union, Fairbanks reach deal

Published: August 15, 2012

FAIRBANKS -- A union representing classified employees has reached a labor agreement with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.

The three-year agreement with the Education Support Staff Association is tentative ahead of a member ratification vote Sept. 8 and a school board vote Sept. 18.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the contract calls for yearly step increases and a 1.75 percent increase to the salary schedule. Employees not eligible for step increases get a $750 stipend.

The union represents custodial, kitchen, maintenance and others employed in support jobs. It does not represent teachers.
