Bear takes tour of busy Southeast Alaska lodge

Published: August 16, 2012

Dave Hayes, an employee of Cape Fox Lodge in Ketchikan, tells public radio KRBD about a very relaxed black bear -- "a big cub" -- that took a 10-minute tour of the lodge. The incident was a thriller for tourists and gave employees some excitement too. For the bear, though, a visit to the restroom might have been the highlight, according to Hayes.

"It was in our coffee shop ... for a while, and then we chased it and it went through the lobby. ... Then it went into the ladies' bathroom and stared in the mirror for a couple minutes."

Employees eventually coaxed the bear out the back door by blocking it from heading in any other direction. Listen to the audio report at KRDB: Bear visits Cape Fox Lodge.
