Resident, pets escape morning house fire in Eagle River

Published: August 17, 2012

An Eagle River home was damaged by fire Friday but no one was injured, the Anchorage Fire Department said.

A resident of the home made a 911 call reporting the fire at 10:19 a.m., according to the fire department. Fourteen fire units responded to fight the blaze, said an AFD spokesman.

The Alaska Star newspaper reported that resident Janet Seitz and her two dogs and cats escaped unharmed from the fire at 11521 Upper Sunny Circle.

An Anchorage Fire Department captain told the Alaska Star that the fire was apparently started by flammable cleaning materials that workers were using in the home.

The AFD estimated the damage at $70,000 and said the home is uninhabitable.
