No proof of crime linked to school has been found

Published: August 18, 2012

Geoff Kennedy's letter ("Government name change won't make rights abuses just vanish," Aug. 15), just as Mr. Broad's story, is misleading, as is the headline to the letter.

Not one example of anyone using what he/she learned at School of the Americas or the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) to commit any crime has ever been found. The allegations are much like the "natural moose product" they used to sell tourists up in North Pole. Since the courses at these schools are usually two weeks to three months in length, calling someone a "graduate" is equally misleading.

I'm the public affairs officer for WHINSEC, and I welcome anyone to come see who we are and what we do. www.benning.army.mil/tenant/whinsec
