This week's winner is Michael McKinnon of Anchorage, with an assist from Eric Olenick.
McKinnon wrote in response to an Aug. 14 letter from Olenick, who took the Daily News to task for what he sees as a letters bias against Mitt Romney.
McKinnon, in a letter published Saturday, wrote in part:
"(Olenick) also says that as a conservative he is bothered by those liberal letter writers until he remembers he is in a red state that will vote overwhelmingly for Romney. And then he smiles.
"It troubles me this state will vote for Romney, but then I remember that how this state votes in the presidential race doesn't matter. And then I smile."
First, in a bitter election campaign ADN letter writers duel with smiles. Nice touch.
Second, I have this fantasy that one election, it'll come down to the last seven electoral votes of Alaska and Hawaii, with both states on the bubble. That'll teach the broadcast and cable networks to project winners at three o'clock in the afternoon our time.
Thanks to all for writing.
