JUNEAU -- A tentative contract agreement has been reached between the Juneau School District and the union representing most of the district's teachers.
KINY reports some consensus was reached Thursday but the details about the agreement will not be publicly released until the School Board and association members have ratified it.
The two sides have been in negotiations since January and turned to mediation after reaching an impasse in May.
The school district says the two sides worked with a local mediator for two days before an apparent agreement was reached.
Superintendent Glenn Gelbrich says he applauds both sides for "working through tough issues in a professional and proactive manner. "
Juneau Education Association president Ben Kriegmont says both sides believe the agreement is acceptable.
