Service stays No. 1 in prep football poll

Defending large-school state champion Service (1-1), fresh off a 42-0 Cook Inlet Conference win over Bartlett, remained No. 1 in the latest Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network poll ranking Alaska high school football teams.

Palmer (2-0) of the Railbelt Conference is No. 2 and defending state runner-up South (2-0), which last week beat East 41-0, entered the poll at No. 3. Rounding out the large-school top five are Juneau-Douglas (2-0) and North Pole (2-0), Railbelt teams that meet Saturday night in Juneau.

Eielson (2-0) is No. 1 in the mid-small school poll, following by Kodiak (2-0), Soldotna (1-1), Monroe (2-0) and Nikiski (2-0).

Loan, Folmar conquer climbs

Sheryl Loan and Daniel Folmar each picked up yet another victory in an Arctic Bicycle Club race, prospering in Sunday's Triple Hill Climb, which featured 15 miles, 3,000 feet of climbing, two wicked-fast descents and difficult headwinds.

Loan clocked 1 hour, 6 minutes, 35.9 seconds to win the women's expert class by about five minutes.

Folmar won the men's expert class by more than two minutes, crossing in 59:46.3.
