FAIRBANKS -- A trail that was closed because of problems with aggressive bears has been reopened.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the Granite Tors Trail in the Chena River State Recreation Area reopened Monday. It had been closed for a week because of bear problems, including a black bear ripping a hole in a family's tent. The bear was driven away after family members threw rocks at it. Hikers also reported that a pair of young grizzlies had been stalking and frightening hikers.
Ranger Nikki Potter says rangers hiked the popular 15-mile trail multiple times last week and saw signs of bears but encountered none.
