Anchorage Daily NewsAugust 21, 2012

Coming off a runner-up finish in the conference last season and a third straight trip to the NCAA Division II tournament, the UAA volleyball team has been picked to finish third this season by Great Northwest Athletic Conference coaches.

Coaches in their preseason poll pegged Western Washington as No. 1 and Western Oregon as No. 2.

Voting was tight -- Western Washington received three first-place votes and 72 points, Western Oregon checked in with four first-place votes and 71 points, and the Seawolves racked two first-place votes and 70 points.

UAF, which went 2-24 last season for ninth place in the 10-team league, was picked No. 9.
