Anchorage police detectives continued Tuesday to look for a suspect who attacked two men with a knife late Saturday on a Fairview street, killing one.
Police have named the man fatally stabbed as Adrian Beaver, a 27-year-old Anchorage resident. He is the city's 12th homicide victim of 2012.
Beaver and another man, 45-year-old Lovie Houston, were walking near 11th Avenue and Hyder Street about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, police said. Houston and another witness told police a man with a Jamaican or African accent approached Beaver and Houston, pulled out a knife and attacked the two men, said Detective John Foraker.
"It wasn't a random attack," Foraker said Tuesday. "There had been an argument between the two previous in the evening, but exactly what that disagreement was about, I don't know at this time."
The suspect -- a bald, dark-skinned black man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 180 pounds, with a goatee -- rode away on a woman's black mountain bike, headed north on Gambell Street, police said.
Beaver was pronounced dead at a hospital. Houston suffered a puncture wound in his neck, police said.
Foraker said he continued to talk to witnesses, look at Beaver's criminal history and associations, and was awaiting results of a toxicology report from an autopsy on Beaver.
Police ask that anyone with information on the stabbing or the suspect's whereabouts call them at 786-8900 or deliver a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
