Tara Thompson ran for two touchdowns and Vanessa Tufaga added another rushing score, as Dimond defeated host Service 26-6 Tuesday night in a Cook Inlet Conference flag football game.
Thompson, who scored Dimond's first touchdown on a short run, finished with 44 yards on 11 carries. Tufaga put the Lynx up 14-0 with an 8-yard touchdown run in the first half, part of her 64 yards on nine carries. She also led the defense with six pulls.
Gabby Coleman made four pulls and returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown on the game's final play. Haley Martin and Rachel Brady each contributed interceptions for the Lynx.
Service quarterback Stephanie Compton connected with Keriann Hansen on a 15-yard touchdown pass to bring the Cougars to within 14-6 in the third quarter. Compton finished with 174 yards on 16 of 24 passing. Hansen hauled in three passes from 50 yards. Emily Haas led the Service defense with 13 pulls.
West 18, South 6
Mimi Troxel's only catch of the game was a good one Tuesday, a 36-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown reception from West quarterback Annie Rush that sealed an 18-6 CIC flag football victory over South at Anchorage Football Stadium.
West took a two-score lead on a rushing touchdown from Anna Sophia Roberts and a touchdown reception from Shiccia Harris-Grant, but South narrowed the lead to 12-6 early in the fourth quarter.
Harris-Grant (four receptions) and Mekayla Winchester (five) each finished with 77 receiving yards. Rush completed 11 of 23 passes for 217 yards and threw four interceptions to go with her two touchdown passes.
Troxel led the West defense with nine pulls, with Harris-Grant and Gracen Hanley each made interceptions for the Eagles.
Chugiak 14, Bart. 0
Chugiak's Holly Brehmer and Carly Metcalf each scored touchdowns Tuesday, and the Mustangs shutout Bartlett 14-0 in a CIC flag football game at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium.
Brehmer struck for the Mustangs' first score on a 10-yard run in the first quarter, and Ashleigh Sitz caught a two-point conversion pass from Nikki Kennedy to put Chugiak up 8-0. Metcalf's 12-yard touchdown pass from Sitz put Chugiak up 14-0 in the fourth quarter.
Six pulls from Sam Perez led the Chugiak defense, and Sammi McMullen tracked down and interception on the game's final play.
In other CIC flag football action, Eagle River beat visiting East 14-7.

South's Morgan Hooe racked 15 assists Tuesday to facilitate the Wolverines' 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 sweep of visiting Bartlett in a Cook Inlet Conference volleyball match.
South's Mikayla Sweet and Shelby Little each scored six kills, and Lauren Hoffman made three aces.

In a rematch of last season's state championship volleyball match, defending state champion South defeated Dimond last weekend in the title match of the Chugiak Invitational volleyball tournament at Chugiak High.
Hooe was named most valuable player, as the Wolverines won 20-16, 20-18 in the best-of-3 title match, topping 13 participating teams in the double-elimination tournament.
All eight Cook Inlet Conference teams (Bartlett, Dimond, Chugiak, Eagle River, East, Service, South and West) competed, along with Palmer, Wasilla, Colony, Grace Christian, Soldotna and West Valley.
The two-day tournament began with a day of rapid-fire pool play to determine seeding for two brackets. The top teams from pool play made up the championship gold bracket, with the rest of the teams going to a silver bracket. Chugiak won the silver bracket with a 20-16, 20-11 win over Colony in a title match.

With a balanced performance that claimed three singles wins and three doubles wins, the Service tennis team defeated Chugiak 6-3 in a Cook Inlet Conference meet at Chugiak on Tuesday.
Jayden Hodgson and Aden Moon each notched wins for Service in boys singles, with Rachael Juliussen adding a win in girls singles. Chugiak's only singles triumph came from Kelsey Metcalf in a girls match.
