Reward offered in vandals' attack on UAF reindeer calf

Published: August 30, 2012

FAIRBANKS -- Officials in Fairbanks are offering a reward for information on the wounding of a reindeer calf.

Vandals last week tore up a garden at the Experiment Farm of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. They uprooted vegetables, pulled out a stop sign and damaged expensive equipment, including a laser range finder.

UAF Police Chief Sean McGee tells the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner the vandals also are suspected of wounding the young reindeer. He says it appears a suspect picked up a small fence post and threw it at the calf.

The blow hit the animal's left rear leg below the knee and chipped the bone.

The nonprofit Fairbanks Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information on the case.
