Sunday's best bets

• Gary Allan. The country music star has been charting radio hits since 1996, toeing the line between pop ballads and classic country in the Bakersfield, Calif., mold. Hear him at the Borealis Theater 6 p.m. Sunday, $35 or $50 for reserved admission (no seating).

• Alaska State Fair Beard Contest. Think you've got enough scruff to take home a blue ribbon? You can enter the fair's beard contest up to 30 minutes prior to the event. Four categories of whiskers -- including mustaches and goatees -- go on display beginning at 2 p.m. on the Heineken Stage at the Woodlot.

• World Eskimo-Indian Olympics Demo. Students in grades 7-12 will demonstrate a number of events featured in the annual World Eskimo-Indian Olympic games at the Pebble Corral, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
