Led by individual champions Micah Chelimo and Susan Tanui on Saturday, the UAA cross-country running team opened its season by sweeping the team titles at the Hawaii Pacific Invitational.
Chelimo, a senior All-American who is the defending Division II West Region champ, led the men to an overwhelming performance. UAA sophomore Dylan Anthony finished second, senior Alfred Kangogo took fourth and sophomore Isaac Kangogo took fifth. UAA's graduate assistant, Anthony Tomsich finished third while competing as an open runner.
For Tanui, a junior, the victory was her first as a Seawolf. Junior All-American Ivy O'Guinn finished third, senior All-American Miriam Kipng'eno finished fourth, senior Katie Krehlik captured fifth and freshman Sarah Freistone took sixth.
Team and individual results were not reported.
The UAA men and women both are defending champions in the West Region and Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The Seawolves will train in Hawaii this week and compete Saturday at the Hawaii Big Wave Invitational.
