Monday's Alaska State Fair Best Bets and Schedule

Published: September 2, 2012

BEST BETS

Hot Chelle Rae. Closing the fair's concert series will be pop-rock combo Hot Chelle Rae from Nashville, Tenn., who take sugary bubblegum pop and dress it up for the dance floor, or in this case the Borealis Stage: 3 p.m. $20 or $45 for reserved admission (no seating).

Dog-Owner Look-Alike Contest. Some people's pets are treated like family -- others look like family. See which person and pup look most alike at the Heineken Stage in the Woodlot, 2-3 p.m.

Alaska's Got Talent Finals. After singing, dancing and performing their way through the early rounds, some talented Alaskans vie for the distinction of most talented at the Heineken Stage in the Woodlot, 4-6 p.m.

Demolition Derby. While the traffic leading into the fair can sometimes be bumper to bumper, luckily it's not often bumper on bumper. The opposite is true at the demolition derby. The scrap heap starts piling up 4 p.m. at the Grandstand, $12 for adults, $7 for kids.
