KENAI -- A 54-year-old Soldotna man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the 2008 death of a 20-year-old woman.
Frank Bessette Jr. pleaded guilty to manslaughter and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Michele Pecora. Bessette was sentenced Thursday in Kenai.
The Peninsula Clarion says Bessette originally was charged with murder and sexual assault.
Authorities say Pecora was killed after a party and her body was stuffed into a cardboard television box.
Alaska State Troopers informed Pecora's mother in May 2009 that remains found three days earlier were those of her daughter.
Bessette last year sought dismissal of all charges, saying that the state acted recklessly when it allowed Pecora's body to be cremated.
