All Anchorage schools, UAA open today

September 6, 2012

The Anchorage School District says all schools will be open on a regular schedule today except Chester Valley Elementary, which will start at 11 a.m. Three schools -- Chester Valley, Ptarmigan and Bowman -- were operating on generator power this morning due to continuing outages following the windstorm.

The University of Alaska Anchorage is also open, including its Eagle River-Chugiak and military campuses.

Here's this morning's ASD announcement:

UPDATE: 8:45 a.m.

Ptarmigan, Bowman and Chester Valley Elementary Schools are operating without power this morning. The schools do have back-up generators. Children will be safe in the school and will operate a normal school day. Water is available and hot lunches will be provided on a regular schedule.

Chester Valley Elementary School will operate today under a delayed start. School will begin at 11 a.m.

All other schools are open and operating a normal schedule today.

We know that some families are still without power. It is up to each family to decide what is best for them and whether their child can attend school. Please call your child's school to let the office know if you choose to keep your child home.
