Eagle River tops West Valley, earns first win since 2010

Anchorage Daily NewsSeptember 8, 2012

Eagle River's football team bagged its first outright victory since 2010 -- that's not counting a forfeit win against Chugiak last season -- with Saturday afternoon's 26-17 nonconference win over visiting West Valley.

The Wolves (1-4, 0-4 Cook Inlet Conference) piled up a 26-0 homecoming lead heading into intermission and withstood the Wolfpack's comeback in the second half.

Leroy Banks' 75-yard touchdown return of a punt as time expired in the first half delivered Eagle River's 26-0 cushion.

The Wolves in the first half also received a 7-yard touchdown run from Ed Hall, who piled up 104 yards on 16 carries. Quarterback Peter Kott set up his own 7-yard touchdown run with a 7-yard pass to Corbin Duxbury on fourth-and-4, and he also connected with Jachi Madubuko for a 33-yard touchdown pass.

Kott's 36-yard pass to Jeavonte Dunn prefaced Hall's touchdown run.

West Valley of the Railbelt Conference worked its way back into the game with JC Cummings' 23-yard touchdown run and Dominick Anderson's 1-yard touchdown run, both in the third quarter. The Wolfpack also got a 26-yard field goal from Riley Hinz.

Graham rushed 22 times for a game-high 107 yards.
