Woodlot extends hours to receive storm debris

Published: September 9, 2012

Residents still dealing with downed trees and fallen branches from Tuesday night's windstorm can take the materials to the Anchorage Woodlot, at the South Anchorage Sports Park near the intersection of Klatt Road and C Street, all week. The lot, usually open Thursday through Sunday, will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to help in the storm cleanup effort.

The woodlot has counted more than 1,000 vehicles dropping off materials since the storm, according to the Anchorage Soil and Water Conservation District, which operates it.

The district charges $10 a pickup load for people dropping off brush, $25 for a large stump, and $12 a yard for wood chips. The woodlot doesn't accept garbage, compost or leaves, though branches with leaves are fine.

The wood and mulch is free for anyone who wants to pick it up. The woodlot will be open through the end of September or longer if the weather allows it.
