Homer mayor vetoes plastic bag ban

Anchorage Daily News / adn.comSeptember 10, 2012

The mayor of Homer on Friday vetoed a proposed ban on disposable plastic bags in the Kachemak Bay town.

"I believe this issue needs to come back to the council for more work," wrote Mayor James Hornaday.

The Homer News reports that the veto is only the second of the mayor's term.

Hornaday could not be reached Monday for comment.

The city council passed the proposed ordinance banning lightweight disposable plastic bags by a 4-2 vote in August.

The council will vote on whether or not to override the veto on Sept. 24, according to the Homer city clerk's office.
