Man accused of huffing-related wreck

FAIRBANKS -- A Fairbanks man is accused of causing a car crash because he drove after inhaling aerosol gases.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says 21-old Daniel W. Thompson has been charged with assault.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Thompson was at an intersection in March when he drove across oncoming lanes and his car hit a snowbank and went airborne. His car then collided with a van carrying 10 tourists.

None of the people in the van was hurt, but two passengers in Thompson's car were taken to the hospital.

Troopers say Thompson's passengers said they were inhaling what they called "whippets" from cans of computer duster spray.

A warrant has been issued for Thompson's arrest.
