KODIAK -- Residents of Kodiak Island say a magnitude 5.5 earthquake was widely felt across the island Monday although there were no reports of damage or injuries.
Resident Irene Phillips tells the Kodiak Daily Mirror she felt it while she was sitting in her car but adds she "thought it was the wind."
The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says the moderate quake hit at 5:44 p.m. It was centered about 90 miles southwest of Kodiak at a depth of about 30 miles.
The town of Kodiak is about 260 miles south-southwest of Anchorage.
