Kodiak harbor master comes to aid of boaters

Published: September 18, 2012

KODIAK -- The Kodiak harbor master's office came to the rescue of people in trouble with skiffs Monday.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror reports the office took a call at 3:30 p.m. Monday from a fisherman who swamped in 6-foot waves near Gibson Cove.

Harbor master Marty Owen says the fisherman beached the boat but remained exposed to crashing waves on a pocket beach.

The harbor department's skiff towed the beached boat to the other side of Gibson Cove and police, firefighters and volunteers pulled it ashore.

The harbor office also towed a second skiff adrift after its engine failed.
