KETCHIKAN -- A 34-year-old Ketchikan woman is accused of binding her 7-year-old son's mouth and hands with duct tape.

KRBD says Elizabeth C. Johnson is charged with felony endangering the welfare of a child in the Sunday incident. She was arrested Monday.

Police Lt. Joe White says police were notified by Houghtaling Elementary School that the boy showed up at school with tape residue on his face, hair and hands, wrists and forearms.

The child reportedly said his mother put tape around his mouth and taped his hands.

Police say the boy's 5-year-old brother told officers he saw his mother put tape on his brother after breakfast and did not take it off until bedtime.

White says both children are in the care of the state Office of Children Services.
