Troopers kill suspect after shooting along Parks Highway

Associated PressSeptember 21, 2012

Alaska State Troopers have shot and killed a person suspected of shooting and wounding a man early Friday morning along the Parks Highway.

Agency spokeswoman Megan Peters says in an email that the suspect was armed, and troopers fired at the person.

The shooting happened about noon Friday. No additional details were immediately available.

Troopers on Friday morning set up checkpoints over a nine-mile stretch of the Parks Highway north of Healy after a man was shot and a woman with him injured. Peters says they were able to escape their attacker and call authorities. Troopers asked motorists not to stop for anyone and not to pick up hitchhikers.

Peters says there are no longer any travel restrictions for motorists on the Parks Highway.
