JUNEAU -- Alaska Democrats plan a rally Saturday in Anchorage to support Alaskans getting a "fair" return on oil development in the state.
Oil taxes have emerged as a major issue for Democrats, particularly when it comes to state Senate races. Leaders of the Senate's bipartisan coalition last year blocked Gov. Sean Parnell's plan to cut oil production taxes, a proposal critics labeled as a giveaway to oil companies. Parnell sees cutting taxes as a way to boost investment and production.
Some Republicans have made breaking up the coalition a priority. Democrats and their supporters see this as an attempt to try to push a sweeping oil tax cut through the Legislature.
