Heads up: Northern lights are expected to be active over much of Alaska tonight, weather permitting.
The Aurora forecast at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute calls for "active" auroras Sunday night across a broad band of the state.
"Auroral activity will be active. Weather permitting, active auroral displays will be visible overhead from Barrow to Anchorage and Juneau, and visible low on the horizon from King Salmon and Prince Rupert," the forecast said.
The latest auroras are the result of increased solar activity on Sept. 27, according to NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center.
About 7 p.m. Alaska time, the center posted on its Facebook page: "We have issued a G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm warning ... Lots of aurora reports are flowing in. Enjoy it if you can see it!"
