Juneau to pick new mayor in municipal election

Published: October 1, 2012

JUNEAU -- Juneau voters will choose a new mayor Tuesday in the community's municipal election.

KINY-radio reports former Deputy Mayor Merrill Sanford will square off against Cheryl Jebe.

One of the candidates will replace Mayor Bruce Botelho, who was prohibited by term limits from running again.

Two assembly seats, three school board seats and two propositions for capital projects are also on the ballot.

One measure is a $25 million bond proposition and the second is an extension of a 1 percent temporary sales tax that would pay bond debt from the other proposition.
