KETCHIKAN -- Alaska State Troopers say a violent argument preceded the weekend stabbing death of a Metlakatla woman.
Twenty-nine-year-old William I. Buxton is charged in the death Saturday of the woman he lived with, 67-year-old Leona Meely.
Troopers arrested Buxton at a clinic. The Ketchikan Daily News reports he told troopers he injured his hands when he stabbed his "auntie."
Buxton's mother, Margie Buxton, told troopers she witnessed the argument. She told an investigator her son struck Meely with a kitchen chair, stomped her head and stabbed her with a kitchen knife,
She told the investigator she tried to intervene and was pulled away.
Troopers say Buxton told them he stabbed Meely to protect his mother.
Buxton in court Monday was told a grand jury will hear the case Thursday.
