Letter: Stereotyping Alaska Natives remains painfully prevalent

The picture on the front page captured my attention above the article "Liquor Battle Brewing," printed on Oct 1. While reading the article the image of the two men stuck, and probably like many who read the article, I saw the "inebriates" all had the same color of skin, the same ethnicity -- Alaska Native.

They say pictures speak louder than words -- in this case it certainly did. It was so typical. So normal. As an Alaska Native myself, it was the familiarity that struck the most -- the same stereotypical assumptions. Ouch.
