Native corporation CEO says it's time to reduce federal contracting

Published: October 10, 2012

Ouzinkie Native Corp. CEO Greg Strong tells the Kodiak Daily Mirror (subscription required) it's time for Native corporations to reduce their dependence on federal contracts, for which they get preferred treatment under the 8(a) affirmative action program.

"In light of defense spending, there's a concern, probably a very justified concern, that defense spending is going to become less," said company CEO Greg Strong on Monday.

Strong spoke with the Daily Mirror the week after the company's annual meeting in Ouzinkie and had a similar message to the one presented by Koniag Inc. CEO Will Anderson on Saturday.

"We realize that government support for ANCSA Native 8(a)s is dwindling." Strong said, "We need to shift our focus to other opportunities."
