Letter: We’re all American citizens

Published: October 11, 2012

“One Nation Under God.” “In God we Trust.” Added in 1954 and 1956, respectively, 180 years after the birth of our nation.

I don’t take issue when an individual turns to something that makes them have hope, or makes them feel better. I do have an issue when an individual belief influences others rights in this country. Gays, women who choose abortion, all have their rights in question because a book says they are wrong. Well, I am sorry if it violates a moral conciseness in those who have faith. But this is America. I don’t see “gays,” I see American citizens. I don’t see “baby killers,” I see American citizens.

Maybe it’s time to change the message to “In America we Trust.” Keep God in the church, and in yourself.
