— The Chugiak and West volleyball teams played an epic fourth set Thursday night that lasted more than 30 minutes and ended with Chugiak winning the set and the match, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 30-28.

"That last one was a barnburner," West coach Mike Vincent said. "It was phenomenal volleyball to watch, even on the losing side. It was incredible -- great athletes making great plays, at the net, in the back row.

"I've still got goosebumps. To compete at that level, it's so exciting."

Chugiak libero Kara Haeussler racked up 30 digs -- "That tells you what kind of night it was," Vincent said -- and Elle Gray tallied 13 kills and 17 digs in the Cook Inlet Conference match at West High.

For West, Rita Dexter slammed 16 kills and Jenn Evans contributed 21 assists and five aces.
