Was Sarah Palin aware of the origin of the slavery-era phrase "shuck and jive" when she used it on Facebook to criticize President Obama's statements on the Benghazi killings of four Americans? As CNN commentator Roland Martin responded to Fox commentator Palin's post: 

“Shucking and jiving” have long been words used as a negative assessment of African Americans, along the lines of a “foot shufflin’ Negro.” In fact, I don’t recall ever hearing the phrase used in reference to anyone white.

Politico compiles some of the media's Twitter response to Palin's word choice and points out that White House press secretary Jay Carney used the term in 2011 in jokingly describing his own behavior.
