Anchorage — To make roster room for forward Alexandre Imbeault and defenseman Alain Goulet, the Alaska Aces on Thursday released winger Matt Ambroz.
Ambroz, who had played in one of the hockey team's four games this season, has not played for another team as a pro. He joined the Aces out of Nebraska-Omaha late in the 2010-11 season and last season earned 3-7--10 totals in 48 games for Alaska.
In other moves, the Aces placed defensemen Kane Lafranchise (hit to the head) and Corey Syvret (broken finger) on the reserve list. That came after they placed captain and defenseman Steve Ward (broken leg) and winger Tim Hall (upper-body injury) on the 21-day injured reserve on Wednesday.
Also banged up is goaltender James Reid, who came out of Tuesday's practice with a lower-body injury. He put on all his gear Thursday at Sullivan Arena and made the march over to adjacent Ben Boeke Arena for practice, but soon left. The Aces plugged in local Micah Perletti as an emergency back-up goaltender.
Look for Mark Guggenberger, coming off last Saturday's 1-0 win over Utah, to start Friday night's series opener against San Francisco.
Meanwhile, veteran defenseman Sean Curry, who has been dealing with a groin injury since training camp, skated through a full practice Thursday and said it he felt well, but doesn't want to rush things and suffer another setback.
Also, defenseman Todd Orlando (lower-body injury), who has yet to play this season, skated on his own before practice.
Imbeault will wear No. 55 and Goulet will wear No. 3. Syvret, who had worn No. 3, will now wear No. 20. And rookie defenseman Chris Haltigin, who wore No. 2 in his pro debut and scored the only goal in that victory over Utah, has switched to No. 41.
Shuffling the deck
The Aces are part of a week-long food drive to benefit the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska's food pantry for local military, and fans can bring canned goods to any of the Aces' games against San Francisco this week.
Also, non-perishable food items and diapers are being accepted at the Aces' offices (724 E. 15th Ave.), Anchorage Media Group (301 Arctic Slope Ave.) and Specialty Truck & Auto (8225 Hartzell Road).
